SUMMARY:(2013) WSWC / WGA Energy-Water Workshop
DESCRIPTION:WSWC-WGA Water/Energy Workshop\n\nWHERE: Sheraton Denver Downtown\n1550 Court Place\nDenver, CO\nWHEN: April 2nd, 2013\nEnergy-Water Workshop Summary Report ( https://westernstateswater.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/J-4-Energy-Water-Workshop-Summary-Report.pdf )\nWSWC-WGA 2013 Energy-Water Workshop Agenda ( https://westernstateswater.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/WSWC-WGA-2013-Energy-Water-Workshop-Agenda-Mar-25.pdf )\nThe Western States Water Council and the Western Governors’ Association are co-sponsoring a workshop on water/energy nexus topics pertinent to water and energy planners and utility managers on April 2nd, 2013 in Denver, Colorado. The purpose of the workshop is to present new information on water/energy studies and efforts in the West that may be helpful to the attendees, and to examine topics that the Council or the WGA may wish to emphasize for the western states’ governors. For example, water used for energy extraction, different energy sources, renewable energy development, water use trends and how some states are integrating energy resources into their statewide water planning efforts. There is no cost to attend, but seating is limited, so please register early. We hope you can join us on April 2nd!\n\nThe workshop will begin Tuesday, April 2nd, at 10:00 am and conclude at 5:00 pm.\n \n**The workshop was a tremendous success with over 70 attendees and much feedback given during the breakout sessions. We appreciate everyone who came, especially our wonderful speakers, who shared their research and knowledge with the workshop attendees.  Powerpoint presentations (and Prezis) are available below.  We will be issuing a report later this year on the workshop and will notify all attendees when it is published. **\nPresentations:\nCommissioner James Tarpey, Colorado Public Utilities Commissioner, Energy Policy Perspectives on Water in the West ( https://westernstateswater.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Tarpey-Water-%E2%80%93-Energy-Workshop.pptx )\nBrad Nickell, Western Electric Coordinating Council (WECC), Incorporating Water into Long-Range Electricity Transmission Planning ( https://westernstateswater.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Brad-Nickell_WGAwater_WECC.pptx )\nPaul Faeth, CNA Corporation, Policy Analysis for the Energy-Water Nexus at ERCOT ( https://westernstateswater.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Faeth-WGA-WSWC-TX-Preliminary-4-2-13.pdf )\nVince Tidwell, Sandia National Laboratory, Energy and Water in the Western and Texas Interconnects ( https://westernstateswater.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Vince-WSWC-EW-Workshop-TIDWELL-4_13.pptx )\nJeanine Jones, California Department of Water Resources, Ongoing Energy/Water Research in California ( https://westernstateswater.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Jeanine-Jones-WSWC-energy-workshop-april-2013.pptx )\nEric Evenson, US Geological Survey, Federal Perspectives on the Nexus: A Water/Energy Partnership ( https://westernstateswater.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Evenson-Energy-Water-Nexus-and-Thermoelectric.pptx )\nDoug Larson, Western Interstate Energy Board (WIEB), Water and the Western Interstate Energy Board (WIEB) ( https://westernstateswater.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Doug-Larson-slides-only-for-WSWC-WGA-water-energy-workshop-REVISED.pptx )\nRichard Belt, Xcel Energy, Long-Term Water Strategies for Energy Utilities ( https://westernstateswater.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Richard-Belt-WGA-WSWC_energy-water-nexus_4-2-13.ppt )\nJordan Macknick, National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Energy Production and Water Use Trends ( https://westernstateswater.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Jordan-Macknick-NREL-WSWC-April2013.pptx )\nJessica Shi, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), Innovative Water Saving Technologies for the Electric Power Sector ( https://westernstateswater.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Jessica-Shi-WSWC-WGA-Energy-Water-Workshop-04022013.pptx )\nRobert Goldstein, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), WaterPRISM: Water Availability and Resource Risk Management ( https://westernstateswater.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Bob-Goldstein-WGA-Presentation.pptx )\nSara Larsen, Western States Water Council (WSWC), WaDE: A Water Data Exchange for Energy/Water Utility Planners\nNathan Morris, Nebraska Department of Natural Resources, INSIGHT: Integrated Water Resource Tools ( https://westernstateswater.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Nathan-Morris-INSIGHT-Presentation-for-WSWC-WGA-Water-Energy-Workshop04022013.ppt )\n\n
