- On March 20, the U.S. Department of State denied Mexico’s request to use a special connection to deliver Colorado River water to Tijuana, citing Mexico’s shortfalls in meeting the 1944 water-sharing treaty. Texas officials, including Rep. De La Cruz and Sen. Cruz, announced a $280 million grant to support Rio Grande Valley farmers struggling with water shortages due to Mexico’s non-compliance.
- On April 1, the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure approved H.R. 1948, which would allow the International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC) to accept funding from various entities for water conservation projects.
- On April 3, Representatives Moskowitz and Sorensen led a letter urging the Administration to reinstate laid-off NOAA and National Weather Service employees, highlighting the critical role of these agencies in saving lives and mitigating disaster damage.
- On April 3 NOAA’s Snow Drought Update indicated drought conditions across much of the West due to a spring heat wave, with areas like southwestern Utah and southern Colorado seeing record-low snowpack levels.
