HIGHLIGHTS
- On August 4, Colorado’s full congressional delegation urged the Department of the Interior and Bureau of Reclamation to release $140M for 15 drought-response projects under the Upper Colorado River Basin Environmental Drought Mitigation program (“Bucket 2”). Lawmakers stressed that strengthening the river’s headwaters is vital for resilience against the ongoing 25-year drought and for supporting basin-wide negotiations on future river operations.
- On August 4, NASA held a meeting to discuss restructuring its Landsat Next mission to reduce life-cycle costs below $1B while preserving technical performance and long-term public data access. The agency’s Mission Alternatives Assessment Team is exploring government, commercial, and hybrid approaches, with input due this month to inform an upcoming Request for Information.
- On July 24, House and Senate Appropriations Committees advanced Interior-Environment appropriations bills (S. 2431 and H.R. 4754). The House has advanced its Energy-Water appropriations bill. The Senate has advanced its Commerce-Justice-Science appropriations bill.
