HIGHLIGHTS

Weather Act Reauthorization Act
On September 10, the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology passed an amended version of the Weather Act Reauthorization Act (H.R. 5089).

Western Water Cooperative Committee
On September 4, the Corps hosted a kick-off meeting for the Western Water Cooperative Committee to introduce members and set a tentative first meeting for the week of December 1-5, 2025, in Bismark, North Dakota. WWCC members are are invited and encouraged to submit their topic requests for the meeting to the WWCC Chair, Chris Brown, and copy the WSWC Deputy Director, Michelle Bushman, no later than September 17.

Section 401 Certification Authority
On September 7, WSWC sent a letter to EPA regarding the federalism aspects of EPA’s recent request for comments on implementation challenges associated with CWA §401 as EPA considers new guidance or new rulemaking.

New WSWC Executive Director
On August 31, Tony Willardson retired as the Executive Director of the WSWC, after 46 years of dedicated service, leadership, expertise, and tireless advocacy for western water. The WSWC is pleased to announce the appointment of J.D. Strong as its new Executive Director, effective September 1, 2025.
