Western States Water Council

A Voice for Water in the West

Testimony: NASA and Water Data

On June 21, the WSWC submitted written testimony to the Senate Appropriations Committee’s Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies.  The testimony addresses the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Applied Earth Science Research Programs.  The Council strongly supports and works cooperatively to advance linkages between NASA’s capabilities and water managers’ needs, working with NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s Western Water Applications Office.

The WSWC also calls on the Congress to plan for and provide resources for long-term continuity of observations and the transition from research to operations programs such as the use of Landsat thermal infrared sensor data and the Open Evapotranspiration (OpenET) software system and data platform.
