Newsletter Highlights:
- On April 23-25, the Western States Water Council (WSWC) held its 206th Spring Meetings in Lincoln, Nebraska. Members revised and re-adopted four sunsetting positions and approved one new position supporting the extension of NPDES permit lengths.
- A groundwater workshop was held before the main meetings, where states discussed water rights allocation, conjunctive management, groundwater quality protection, recharge strategies, and data collection. The Committee meetings included topics such as drought forecasting, S2S research funding, workforce development, updates on OpenET, WaDE, and WestDAAT, post-Sackett regulatory responses, EPA Region 7 initiatives, historic federal water rights claims, oilfield water reuse, public trust and updates on WSWC workplan tasks.
- The Full Council elected Julie Cunningham as Chair, Earl Lewis as Vice Chair, and Candice Hasenyager as Secretary Treasurer. The Council also discussed strategic planning feedback.
- The 60th Anniversary Summer Meeting will be held in June 2025 in Snowbird, Utah (room block deadline May 14th.)
